Samsung QLED vs LG OLED – Flagship TV Shootout

Check out our CES 2018 live stream:

We compare two of the finest televisions that 2017 has to offer: the Samsung QLED and LG OLED.

Samsung’s brand new QLED line of TVs is a series coined by the company that means “quantum light emitting diode”. The new branding is an attempt to distinguish this TV as Samsung’s most premium television and has the capacity to produce an image that’s brighter than an OLED TV. The QLED suffers from an acute viewing angle, that requires the viewer to be in the middle of the TV, and could pose a problem if there are multiple people watching it.

With LG’s OLED TV, the image is produced by starting with perfect black. With true blacks being produced, it’s hard to beat the OLED in terms of picture quality. The color is spot on straight out of the box, and its motion is smoother than the QLED.

Although each TV has their strengths and weaknesses, the Samsung QLED and LG OLED both rock a well functioning on-screen interface, but we still have to give it to LG’s OLED TV, with its amazing, true black picture quality.

oled is not colorful, real color is qled

Vittorio Houston says:

samsung the best in the world

Ayn Rand says:

Atari 2600 looks like crap on both. I’ll pass.

Travis Williams says:

I have both the Samsung and the LG and hands down the LG is better! UI is still better on LG, but Samsung has definitely improved. Samsung really pisses me off that each input is tunable, but the tv doesn’t let you tune for standard and HDR content. LG understands and you can tune a given input for both. I’ve been a Samsung fan for better than 20 years, but LG just keeps building better products.

ColonielLizardT4 says:

LG OLED all the way! Samsung can’t ever get it right, their TVs are nothing but overpriced boring colorless trash.
Even Vizio make better TVs than Samsung.

Hey Dudey says:

I don’t understand one thing. What’s the point in making a TV with less viewing angle. It’s better to have a CRT TV than a TV which is so expensive with bad viewing angle.
A person doesn’t always sit on the middle

iLightningFly says:

OLED TV’s are best experience but also best for planned obsolescence if you know what i mean !

Paul Peter Muller says:

QLED far better colors and brightness.

Steven Heptinstall says:

OLED is amazing but the QLED screens are very capable

MadOrange644 says:

There’s no way i’m getting an OLED before they fix the Burn in problem

1 7 says:

In image quality, lg overwhelms samsung

Fr g says:

i have seen Oleds and are truly amazing the black levels and contrast that achieves, the Qled is bright but pay more for an LED TV without any innovation prefer the LG

Vittorio Houston says:

oled shit

IMRavnos says:

One has burn in and the other doesn’t, Samsung wins by a mile.

GMACF1 says:

For HDR content, I’d go with the Samsung any day of the week. For everything else then it would probably have to be the LG. It’s a difficult choice this TV lark.

Azza Prime says:

Id much rather the better brights than darks (Not being racist) for Gaming I find it works a lot better.

moon giyoung says:

It is incorrect to put QLED since it uses the LCD technology. QLCD is the correct expression.

noman Amjad says:

Dude SUHD and Qled in the same thing. Both uses quantum dot display. The only difference is HDR. One is 1000 and the other is 1500. That’s it.

Please don’t use the background music it is really distracting and annoying.

LazerRaptor says:

I love the LG

Michiel Hageman says:

QLED BEATS OLED in sharpness color vivid and brightness period.

13guns says:

Is it worth paying the extra for oled/qled for gaming? 90% of my tv use will be gaming and 10% Amazon Video.

Ka-Sin Alpha says:

Thank god I didn’t use this review when I learned what OLED has massive burn in issues. Gamer, Sports nuts and news nuts, stay far away from OLED! Your TV won’t last two years.

CimandeTube says:

Screen burn on OLED seals the decision for me to not get an OLED

Edmond Edilo says:

I hope samsung made Amoled Tv

Adrian Fitzsimmons says:

I’m confused as to how some people are ignorant to the major issue of permanent screen burn in. You wouldn’t buy a car if you knew the engine would pack in unless you got out to “cool down” every hour or two. Why is a television that costs the same as a second hand car so desirable right now when it’s faulty?

blue sk3tch says:

99% of commenters: fucking OLED fanboys
1% of commenters: sensible ppl

Horus Osiris says:

Samsung looking better

Самитов Назир says:

oled best of the best

DJShotty says:

*Almost* good enough just simply is not ‘good enough’. In a completely dark room and displaying the exact same source – ie. the same UHD BD movie on the exact same model 4K BD player – with respect to picture quality the OLED wins every point of comparison between it and the QLED. This comment comes from a Samsung LED backlit LCD owner of eight years that’s just upgraded to a LG OLED55B7T.

Ross Malagarie says:

The OLED picture’s black looks more blue and the QLED’s black looks more like a true black in the video but that maybe my monitor or the picture settings on the TVs in the video.

Robert McCoy says:

Filmed in 4K, yet uploaded in 720P for comparison purposes #brilliant -_-

Shawn Coley says:

Samsung looks perfect this guy must be getting a check from LG.
If one can’t see the loud blue continuing into the picture where it shouldn’t be then they need to get their eyes checked out. Also the
LG can’t figure out the proper color of skin pigment.

Oliver White says:

the background music is really distracting

oƃƃə says:

Perfect black…Perfect Image retention…Perfect burn in…

Justin Zarcone says:

I own an LG OLED 55B7A, and i absolutely love it. The only knock to an OLED is image retention. I had it happen to me once when I left my character sitting in a dark room staring at a bright light, after leaving it there for about 15 mins, when I came back and moved away I could see a ghost image of the light stuck on the display, scared me at first but it did go away after a minute or two. The Samsung is a close 2nd, and for some people not having to worry about image retention or possibly even burn-in would be a reason to choose the Samsung over the LG

I returned the Samsung 55MU9000 and replaced it for lg oled 55b7,. Oled has a better contrast , better black colors ,cleaner and more natural pictures, a better viewing angle .qled is the trash from the TV
